Enrolling your child
- Most US public schools require proof of residency (utility bill, lease) in the school’s attendance zone.
- You’ll typically need your child’s birth certificate, immunization records, and previous school records.
- For magnet or specialized programs, there may be an application window with a lottery or admissions test.

Getting involved
Most US schools have an active PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) or PTO (Parent-Teacher Organization)that organizes volunteering, fundraising, and advocacy. Ask the school office how to get involved, and check the district’s School Site Council or LCAP advisory committee if you want input on school-level decisions.
